Mary Sergeant 15th June 2024

I was shocked and saddened to hear about Elizabeth. But thank you so much for letting me know. Please pass on my condolences to all the family. My husband John Sergeant and I would like to attend the funeral service on Monday and the reception afterwards. Elizabeth opened the doors of London to me, back in 1970. After a year of teaching in Liverpool, I got the job of Classics teacher at Notting Hill and Ealing High School, with her as my Head of Department. Even before I started, Elizabeth invited me and my husband to lunch at her flat in Ealing. Subsequently, her Mother invited us to wonderful roast lamb lunches at her home or at schools where Elizabeth was Head Mistress. Elizabeth gave me all the support and guidance I needed at NHEHS. I stayed there for 30 years, and became Head of Sixth Form for the last 10 years. We stayed friends for all those years, and more recently we went together to the annual Old Girls tea party every year. She was always delighted to meet old girls she had taught, staff colleagues, and fellow ex-Head Teachers. I will never forget her kindness and her example. And the way she was always so joyful to see me, and even to talk to me on the phone. She will be in my heart for ever. Sent from my iPhone
